HOW TO BECOME A SENSUOUS WITCH by Abragail and Valaria

If one Love Witch is powerful enough, surely two are even better? Abragrail and Valaria are obvious pseudonyms, though their company The Witches Cauldron may have existed at one time. Dr. Raymond Buckland lends his considerable credibility to an introduction and rituals for money and sexual happiness. Sprinkled throughout are some cute cartoons signed by "Valaria" to take the edge off adding your own urine and blood to dishes meant for your beau.

It's all a bit tongue in cheek, mixing vintage man-crazy "empowerment" with dishes like "Sexy Spam" and "New England Sex Stew" ... and TV Dinners??? I guess it's good for modern Witches to take a night off.

STRANGE HEXES by Warren Smith

Curses! Loads of historical hexes, and scads of vengeful witch doctors and sorcerers from Port-au-Prince to Kampala (and Jakarta besides). There's also some cursed artifacts such as a knife, a car, a wedding dress, and Kriegsmarine battleship Scharnhorst. Author Smith dips into the archives with some recycled werewolfery, and credits Brad Steiger interviewing a witchcraft victim. Smith and Steiger's psychic pal Doc Anderson makes a brief appearance, offering some marital advice and hints to achieve ESP.

Perhaps the most bizarre case presented is one that's hardly done justice at all with Smith's "hex" framing - the trial of Aldo Braibanti, the radical Italian intellectual accused of brainwashing youth into communist homosexuality! The political dimensions of the case are excised so as to present a "simple" case of occult mischief, with Smith casting Braibanti as a svengali and claiming that in Italy he's widely known as "the Stealer of Souls." Tawdry work on Smith's part.

BEYOND UNSEEN BOUNDARIES by Brad Steiger

After a long month lost in the Bermuda Triangle we're back, with another of Brad Steiger's titles in his series of Forteana for the Popular Library. This one has a pretty modern focus, with long chapters on Bigfoot, UFOs, and the Bermuda Triangle. The Bigfoot chapter includes a profile on Roger Patterson written up riiiiiight before the release of his famous filmstrip - as such, he's just another hopeful searcher and a former "skeptic" who knows in his bones that Bigfoot lives. Don't worry, there's still plenty of old fashioned ghost stories and psychic premonitions too, and an unsettling chapter wherein one Ingara Nakling, Lutheran missionary, performs an exorcism on a Malagasy man. The exorcism isn't so bad, the truly creepy part is where she earnestly informs us that prior to her arrival the Malagasy people had no word for "love" - because you see, their original heathen Gods were exclusively beings of "fear and hate!" One wonders what other shocking revelations are available in Nakling's memoir My Life and Service Among the Malagasy.

The Astral art of Eckankar also gets a chapter, as does Wyatt Earp (psychic), railroad mogul Arthur Stilwell (also pyschic), and the good Dr. Luis Gomez do Amaral (performing surgery 19 years after his own death) ... along with too many other tidbits to list!

Strangely enough, two of the cameo illustrations on the cover are MIA inside the text. There's neither hide nor hair of the mystically inclined "Hottentot" or the ESP King of the racetrack!
