A new Forteana for a new decade, starting with the lush (uncredited) cover art, and stories that, while including a healthy dose of the old fashioned ghosts and ghouls, also focus on the emerging science of cryptozoology with the "Maltese Monster" - a giant squid - and UFOlogy's infamous "Lead Masks Case" of Rio de Janeiro. Macklin wrote many of these volumes and well he did, as his choice of weird entries is exquisite and his prose is to the point.
